Leaving Sydney

My Big Lap of Australia has officially started. I left Sydney yesterday And it gave me an unexpected farewell gift I didn’t know I needed.

This year I packed up everything I owned, Moved out of my apartment and into my van. Quit a job that I loved. Said goodbye to all my friends. And left the city that’s been my home for almost 10 years.

I decided to stop by Kirribilli to look over my favourite part of Sydney one last time. And that’s when it sunk in. Who knew when I’d be back here.

The thing about travelling though is even though you might be leaving the home that you love You’re leaving it to seek out new places and new experiences. And for me, that is when the good stuff happens.

I can’t express to you all the good that’s come into my life since I started traveling. And the best stuff, was since I bought my van.

Leaving Sydney the traffic was horrible, But it gave me the time to reflect on all I’ve done to get to this point. I’ve been working so hard the last two years to bring this road trip to life. It hasn’t been easy, but I believe if you’re passionate about your goals life will always seems to help you get there - maybe not in the way you originally planned but it’ll happen. You just have to be open to seeing the alternate paths.

So What you can expect for my Big Lap.

I’m going to be vlogging and posting regular videos to YouTube. I’m also posting content to Instagram, Facebook, and my newly created TikTok account :)

Check out my contact page, it has all the links to my socials here.

One thing I want to get better at is taking more photos. I want to capture my incredible country in the hopes of inspiring you to explore your own backyard.

I want to give a shout out to the team at OM Digital Solutions in Sydney. They have given me an incredible OM-5 kit to support my creative adventure. Olympus have always promoted their gear as the perfect travel companion. Lighter Gear, More Freedom. I’m putting this kit to the test on my travels and I’m excited to show you what I create.

But remember, this lap isn’t all about me, I want you reading to get a lot out of it too. Let me know what you want to see here. A daily dairy, travel info and tips or adventure stories? How do you see Vanlife Shots navigating this massive lap.

Day one of my big lap and I’m at Corrimal Beach Tourist Park. It was quite the journey to get here. I didn’t get as far as I planned last night. I also planned to film my take off for a YouTube vlog and that didn’t happen either. I’ve been working non stop for over a year now, And it made me realise if I keep going at this pace I’m going to complete the lap without having been anywhere. What I mean by that is a lot of us rush through things, take the shot, film the scene and run out of time to appreciate the place we’re in.

It reminds me of the John Mayer song “3x5”. I always thought that song was about taking the photo to freeze the memory. It’s actually about the opposite. Putting down the camera and seeing the world through your own eyes.

So if it’s alright with you guys, I’m going to end this blog here.

Switch off and start to see the world with both my eyes…

Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm In the mood to lose my way with words
