My Birthday Wish

I’m off on another adventure. I’ve spent the last couple weeks feeling stuck again. It’s amazing how quickly I slipped back into my old mindset.
After leaving Kangaroo Island I drove to Adelaide to spend time with my family. I stopped filming, stopped creating and spent my time parked in suburban driveways. I could feel myself sinking back to my old ways. I felt trapped. I love spending time with my family but I knew I was tossing aside all the things being on the road was teaching me. I needed to get back out there and feel the dirt beneath my tyres.
Tomorrow is my birthday and I wanted to be somewhere different. Somewhere ‘out there’. I wanted to be on an adventure in the van and that’s exactly what I did.
As soon as I got behind the wheel I felt a rush of excitement. Open road, dry land, red dirt. There was an incredible mountain range far in the distance and I knew that’s where I was headed. What a view. This is real Australia
I wanted to wake up on my birthday at the beach but I didn’t make it as far as the coast. I stopped at a free camp and it was the most unexpected surprise. There was nothing around but for some reason I felt completely content. I felt like I was camping on another planet and immediately the adventurous side of me came back out to play. I love this person. I hope one day she figures out how to overpower the anxious, negative, discouraging side of me once and for all. She’s the one I want to keep around. She makes life way more fun.
It’s taken me a while but I think I’ve finally figured out how to live that happy life I’ve been searching for. Maybe 43 years too late - or maybe, just maybe, it’s come at exactly the right time I needed it to.
Happy Birthday to Me xx
